The modeling of deformable bodies with frictionless (self-)contacts

چکیده
We propose a mathematical model for m-dimensional nonlinear hyperelastic bodies moving in R for all m ≤ n, which enables frictionless contacts or self-contacts but not (self-)intersection. To this end, we de ne a set of admissible deformations, and prove the existence of at least one minimizer of the energy, under suitable assumptions on the stored energy. Moreover, we give a partial equivalence result between the minimization problem and the Euler-Lagrange equations.

A Frictionless Contact Algorithm for Deformable Bodies
This article is devoted to the presentation of a new contact algorithm for bodies undergoing finite deformations. We only address the kinematic aspect of the contact problem, that is the numerical treatment of the non-intersection constraint. In consequence, mechanical aspects like friction, adhesion or wear are not investigated and we restrict our analysis to the simplest frictionless case. On...

– Building on the well-established form closure framework for holding rigid parts, this paper proposes a new framework for holding deformable parts. We consider the class of deformable parts that can be modeled as linearly elastic polygons with a triangular finite element mesh and given stiffness matrix. We define the D-space (deformation-space) of a part as the C-space of all its mesh nodes. F...
متن کاملThe Stable Poses of Multiply Contacted Three-Dimensional Objects
This paper considers a three-dimensional object, B, in frictionless contact with arbitrarily curved bodies in the presence of gravity. For a given set of contacts, we determine the region in space where B's center of mass can vary while keeping B in a stable equilibrium pose. The object can generically maintain one to six contacts with the supporting bodies, and we study these cases in detail. ...
متن کاملDeform Closure: a Framework for Holding Deformable Parts
We extend the well-known form closure framework for rigid parts to holding a class of deformable parts. We consider 2D deformable parts modeled as polygons with a triangular FEM mesh and given stiffness matrix that models linear elasticity and the potential energy associated with deformations of the mesh. We define the D-space (deformation-space) of a part E as the C-space of all nodes in the F...
